It can be extrapolated from the AI Act that, When interacting with an AI system, it must be made clear that you are not speaking with a human being, but to a machine, unless this is already “obvious” from the context. This principle applies especially to chatbots and virtual assistants. Through reading several books and being a commonplace that Japan is a pioneer in humanoid robots which were designed to work in homes, businesses, and elderly care, it became obvious that tendence is to prioritize practical and functional designs over purely humanoid forms where appropriate. Further humanoids-like shapes introduce a well-known feeling in humans: the uncanny valley.
The uncanny valley is a phenomenon first introduced by Japanese roboticist Masahiro Mori in 1970. It describes the region of negative emotional response people have toward robots that look “almost” human. As a robot’s appearance becomes more human-like, people tend to feel more empathy toward it—up to a point. When the robot looks nearly but not perfectly human, this emotional response quickly turns to strong discomfort or revulsion. This dip in positive feelings is what gives the phenomenon its name, the “uncanny valley.” – source https://www.sciencedirect.com/topics/computer-science/uncanny-valley
Transparency is not only important on its own (through the availability of the training contents – ideally just user-provided content and content that complies with copyright and redistribution rights should be used), but also for feeding these pieces of information into furhter steps that check: responsibility (it is important that AI systems, especially those impacting human decisions or psychological interactions, are reviewed by licensed and trained psychologists), personal data protection and system security (ensure robust measures to safeguard user privacy and prevent unauthorized access or data breaches), fairness and non-discrimination (monitor to prevent bias and discrimination, promoting inclusivity and equal opportunities without unfairly favoring any group or individual).
